Tournament Warm up

A good warm up is key to a good performance, but preparing yourself correctly does not just come down to hitting a bucket of balls on the range and hitting a few putts before heading to the first tee. Getting the body ready, and getting the mind prepared go hand in hand. This warm up is designed to help you feel ready to perform on the golf course.

BODY ACTIVATION (10 - 15 minutes)

MAIN WARM UP (Approx 1 hour 10 minutes)

Putting (25 minutes)

  • Check the basics (Alignment, Stroke, Start line)

  • Round the clock in a spiral from close range

  • Get a feel for range and speed, test the slopes and the grain

  • Get into your Pre Shot Routine

Chipping (20 minutes)

  • Start with a few basic ones. Get a feel for how the ball reacts when it lands.

  • Changing distances, clubs and targets trying a few different shots

  • Add some variety, test the rough and see how the ball comes out

  • Finish with a few bunker shots and see how the sand feels

Long Game (35 minutes)

  • Start with wedges, start to get a feel for some short range shots with the focus on tempo before you slowly build up to a full swing.

  • Begin to move targets and change clubs, a couple of short irons then into some longer ones. There is no need to hit every club in the bag, work through a short iron or two, then skip through the mid and longer end 0f the bag.

  • Play the first 3 holes of the course in your head. If you you know the course great, if not look at the card and estimate the yardage.

If the putting green is beside the first tee, add a few putts before go time!!

This routine is a great way to get you started, however it is not for everyone! Try it, modify it and use the ideas to find your perfect routine!
